Close to Home is raising funds to support critical areas of our work that help prevent and end homelessness throughout San Antonio and Bexar County. Your support helps us provide immediate assistance to our unhoused neighbors while ensuring that people with lived experience have a meaningful voice in shaping our community's response to homelessness.

Billy Bundles

Billy Bundles help us provide immediate support when we encounter someone experiencing homelessness. Each bundle contains essential items such as water, snacks, hygiene products, and information about local resources and services.

Named in honor of Billy Mahone III, a beloved advocate and Close to Home team member who passed away in July 2023, these bundles continue his legacy of compassion and service. A small donation can make a meaningful difference by offering comfort, dignity, and connection to critical resources.

LEAB & YAB Support

The Lived Experience Advisory Board (LEAB) and Youth Action Board (YAB) are made up of individuals who are currently experiencing or have previously experienced homelessness or housing instability. Their firsthand perspectives help shape policies, programs, and decisions across our Homeless Response System.

Your donation supports meaningful participation by helping cover meeting meals, transportation assistance, stipends, continuing education opportunities, professional development, scholarships, conference attendance, and other resources that empower members to grow as leaders and advocates.

By intentionally inviting people with lived experience to the tables where decisions are made, we help ensure our community's response remains equitable, informed, and responsive to the people it is designed to serve. We live by the mantra: "Nothing about us, without us."

The Work I Get to Do at Close to Home

One of the things I am especially proud of is the work I get to do at Close to Home to help connect populations with unique needs and experiences to our Homeless Response System.

My work includes strengthening connections and identifying barriers for Veterans, survivors fleeing domestic violence, youth and young adults, and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This means working alongside community partners, service providers, and people with lived experience to help ensure these populations can access the resources, housing opportunities, and support they need.

For me, this work is about more than connecting someone to a program. It is about helping build a Homeless Response System that recognizes that people's paths into homelessness are different and that our response must be accessible, coordinated, trauma-informed, and responsive to each population's needs.

Every contribution to Close to Home helps strengthen the larger system that makes these connections possible and moves our community closer to the goal we all share: ensuring everyone has a safe and stable place to call home.

Thank you so much for your support
