Move: Recreation for all ages

$50,000 total: $25,000 for youth basketball and broader youth recreation; $25,000 for affordable recreation for older adults.

A generous community donor has committed a $10,000 match for older-adult recreation. Help CRRC raise the remaining $15,000 to complete the $25,000 senior-recreation goal.

WHAT OUR COMMUNITY TOLD US

Community members identified senior services as Canyon Lake’s most-needed service. Forty-six percent said health and wellness programming would help them remain independent longer, and the same percentage selected social activities. Among Recreation survey respondents, 49% said affordable programs keep them coming back, and 76% said they were likely or very likely to recommend the Recreation Campus.

YOUTH RECREATION: $25,000

CRRC expects 300–350 young basketball players this season after serving 250 last year and expanding the league to include seventh- and eighth-grade students. The true program cost is approximately $175 per player. Half of current registrants have already requested scholarships.

Move will help provide more than 100 sliding-scale scholarships while supporting uniforms, coaches, referees, practice and game space, administration, staffing, volunteer training, background checks, liability insurance, utilities, and safe program operations. Basketball is also an entry point for rebuilding broader youth recreation at CRRC. We do not want cost to keep a child off the court.

OLDER-ADULT RECREATION: $25,000

Each month, approximately 170 individual older adults make nearly 700 visits through CRRC’s insurance-supported recreation programs—and participation continues to grow. CRRC accepts four insurance plans, each with different rules and limits. Some cover only 12 visits per month.

CRRC made the experience simpler: every insured participant may access up to 20 recreation opportunities per month. CRRC absorbs unreimbursed costs because insurance fine print should not determine how often an older adult can move, connect, and care for their health.

The senior-recreation program operates at an annual deficit of approximately $70,000. At about $7 per otherwise unsupported visit, the $25,000 Move goal is equivalent to underwriting more than 3,500 recreation visits. It will not eliminate the entire deficit, but it will protect access while CRRC builds a more sustainable model.

This is the same community-informed direction reflected in CRRC’s broader senior-services planning: helping older adults maintain independence, improve quality of life, and remain connected through support that is accessible and close to home.
