A safe place for LGBTQIA+ recovery in San Antonio. Open every day. Every path welcome.

Mission Statement

The Diversity Recovery Alliance exists to create a welcoming community and inclusive space where diverse recovery groups can gather and grow.

Our Story

Recovery is hard enough without having to explain who you are first.

For a long time, San Antonio had no dedicated recovery space for the LGBTQIA+ community. If you were queer and in recovery, you found a room and hoped it was safe, or you left part of yourself at the door, or you stopped going.

In April 2025, the Diversity Recovery Alliance opened the DRA Center at 473 Spencer Lane to change that. It is a recovery center built for LGBTQIA+ people and our allies, and it is open every day.

We don't run a single program. We open the door and make room for every path to recovery: AA, NA, Al-Anon, SLAA, Crystal Meth Anonymous, Nicotine Anonymous, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Al-Anon, Dharma Recovery, and more. Over 25 meetings happen here every week.

Board President Chris Crouch, who has 30 years of sobriety, put it this way: "When you're LGBTQIA and you walk into this space, you start seeing that, 'Oh, I'm home, and I'm going to be safe here.'" One of our members said it more simply: "When I'm with my LGBT brothers and sisters, we are family."

What your gift does

The DRA Center is volunteer-run and funded entirely by members and donors. There is no big grant behind us. Rent, utilities, coffee, and the free community lunches all come from people like you.

This is our first year in The Big Give, and our goal is $5,500, about one month's operating costs. But here's the thing about operating costs: they come back every month.

That's why the most powerful gift you can make today is a monthly one. When you donate, check the box to make your gift recurring. A one-time gift helps us hit our goal today. A monthly gift means we're still open in March, when nobody's running a campaign and someone walks through our door for the first time.

  • $50/month keeps the coffee, creamer, and sugar stocked, every month, all year.
  • $100/month keep our library a literature stocked for anyone that needs it.
  • $250/month covers the water, the printer ink, the toilet paper, and other supplies we regularly have to replenish.
  • $500/month literally keeps the lights on. Pays our monthly electric bill.

You don't have to be in recovery. You don't have to live in San Antonio. You just have to believe queer people deserve a place to heal.

Giving once instead? Thank you! every gift counts toward our goal and may be boosted by Big Give matches and prizes today.

Open Every Day Because of You.
