We are the board of Green Spaces Alliance, and every one of us has already given this year.
None of us is paid to be here. We are attorneys, planners, civil servants, teachers, parents, and neighbors who grew up walking creeks and trails in and around San Antonio. We joined this board for one reason: we have watched land we loved disappear under pavement, and we decided we were not going to stand by while it happened to the next generation.
Here is what we know from the inside. Green Spaces Alliance is small, and it is careful with every dollar. We have seen the budgets. We have seen a family sign the papers that protect their ranch over the Edwards Aquifer forever, and we have seen a fifth grader look through a camera at a heron and go quiet. We have stood in a Tiny Forest planted in one of the hottest zip codes in the city and felt the temperature drop under the young canopy. That is where your gift goes.
Our goal is to raise $1,000 from the people who know us best. That is you. Green Spaces Alliance is asking San Antonio for $5,000 in the Big Give, and this page is the board's share of it. Every one of us has given this year. Now we are asking the people who trust us to stand with us. Gifts start at $5, and a $5 gift counts the same to us as any other. A $5 gift buys seeds for a garden bed; $25 fills it with soil and tools; $50 puts a camera in a kid's hands for Picture Your World; $100 helps a landowner take the first steps toward protecting their land for good.
Once open land is gone, there is no getting it back. San Antonio is one of the fastest-growing cities in America. Every acre protected now is an acre your grandchildren can still stand on. There is no undo. There is only what we choose to keep while it is still here.
