Every child who walks through the doors of Respite Care of San Antonio's residential homes is met with something most of them have never had enough of: safety, consistency, and care. That's what Break Day is all about - giving families and children the relief they need to breathe, reset, and keep going.
Behind every single one of those moments is a team you probably don't hear much about. And that's exactly how we've always operated.
We are the Residential Team. We are the schedulers, the coordinators, the problem-solvers, and the people who make sure the lights are on, the files are organized, and every caregiver has what they need to show up fully for the children in our homes. We don't always have our names on the program. We're not in the photos that make it onto the website. But nothing happens without us and we know it.
RCSA's Residential Children's Homes are the only licensed residential homes in our region dedicated to caring for children with special needs and complex medical conditions who have been removed from unsafe environments due to abuse or neglect. These children didn't ask for the circumstances they were born into. What they deserve - what every child deserves - is a real break. A safe place. A house that runs like a home.
That's what a Break Day means for the children we serve. A day where someone capable, committed, and caring is holding it all together so a child can just be a child.
That someone is us.
The Davidson House and the Najim Family Home operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. That kind of consistency doesn't happen by accident. It happens because someone made sure the schedule was right. Because someone followed up on that medical appointment. Because someone kept the paperwork in order so a case manager could focus entirely on a child instead of a filing cabinet. Because someone answered the phone at 7 AM and again at 6 PM and made sure the right person knew what they needed to know.
Every RCSA day starts with us making sure the house is ready to receive it.
This Big Give, we're stepping out from behind the scenes for 24 hours to ask for your support. Not for ourselves - for the children who live in RCSA's homes and the staff who care for them around the clock. Every dollar our team raises goes directly to sustaining the programs, services, and infrastructure that make RCSA's residential care possible - and every Break Day that follows.
We're not the loudest team in this campaign. We're probably not going to post the flashiest fundraising page. But we will be here - organized, steady, and committed - just like we are every single day.
