STEM Makerspace Transformation
We propose transforming the Community Learning Center into a dynamic STEM Makerspace that provides students with a dedicated environment for hands on, project based learning. This space will serve as a hub for engineering, robotics, technology, 3D printing, design, fabrication, collaboration, and real world problem solving.
The Makerspace will allow students to experience the complete STEM design process: Ask, Imagine, Design, Create, Test, Improve, and Share. Through hands on projects and collaborative challenges, students will develop essential skills in creativity, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, innovation, and problem solving while applying classroom concepts to authentic situations.
A key component of this project is maximizing the resources we already have. Rather than purchasing an entirely new setup, existing tables, cabinets, shelving, and storage furniture will be repurposed into mobile workstations, fabrication stations, project storage, and organized materials centers. With the addition of casters, durable countertops, paint, hardware, organizational systems, and other modifications, existing furniture can be transformed into flexible and functional Makerspace stations.
With an estimated investment of approximately $5,000, this remodel will create a versatile STEM innovation hub while minimizing waste and maximizing the value of resources already available on campus. More importantly, the transformation itself models the engineering mindset we want students to develop: identify a need, use available resources, redesign, build, test, improve, and share.
The result will be a flexible, student-centered space where ideas become tangible, collaboration is encouraged, and students are empowered to design solutions to real world challenges.
