Claire for CAMP!

CAMP is my favorite place in the world. Summer after summer, I've made 100s of new friends and reunited with old friends while immersing myself in an environment of full community participation and label-free friendship. CAMP is how I met my very best friends (Hi Ava girl!), the reason I'm studying to be an Occupational Therapist, and why I work to make society at large more accessible and inclusive. 

CAMP provides 24 hour personal care, assists alternative communication, supports advanced medical and behavioral needs, and always seeks to know campers for who they are, regardless of labels and stigma. Campers swim safely with a tracheostomy tube, are confidently lifted into an adapted rope swing, and perform karaoke ballads with their cabin regardless of complex communication needs. The best days of life are made up of shaving cream fights, canoe rides, late night pranks, and- most of all- a community with unwavering focus on the dignity of all individuals regarless of perceived ability. Your donation ensures these incredible opportunities continue for every camper and future camper!

I am so lucky to have found CAMP so early in life- it has shaped everything I do as an adult and professional now. Our volunteer conselors are young people who sacrifice their summer breaks and commit to providing true friendship and an accessible summer camp experience to those who would otherwise be exlucded from socialization and recreation opportunities. I am continually impressed by their strength of character, and know that CAMP is actively changing hundreds and hundreds of these young lives. Your donation esures other young volunteers are able to learn the same lessons I have and meet the wonderful people I love- and bring these value home to their greater communities!

CAMP consistently gives me hope that a community of complete disability acceptance, understanding, opportunity, and love can and does exist.
