This year, with 66 dogs in our care, our rescue operating over capacity and so many dogs still desperately needing our help, The Big Give means more to us than ever before.
Every kennel is full. Every dollar is stretched. And every day, we receive heartbreaking pleas for dogs who are scared, abandoned, injured, misunderstood, or simply running out of time.
We want to keep saying yes.
But we cannot do it without the support of our community.
Texas Round Up Animal Alliance (TRUAA) is a private, grassroots, no-kill dog rescue and sanctuary nestled in the Texas Hill Country. We believe no dog should ever be forgotten, discarded, or lose their life simply because they are scared, injured, older, or misunderstood.
Many of the dogs we save come from county shelters where they have been overlooked, labeled “unadoptable,” or are running out of options. TRUAA becomes their second chance—the safe place they desperately need when there is nowhere else for them to go.
We Meet Them Where They Are
Some dogs arrive ready to begin looking for a family.
Others arrive carrying the scars of heartbreaking pasts.
They may be frightened, shut down, medically fragile, under-socialized, or struggling with behavioral challenges caused by neglect, abuse, abandonment, or simply never being given the guidance they needed.
At TRUAA, rescue does not have a timeline.
Some dogs need a few weeks.
Some need months.
Some need years.
Through our Paws in Progress program, dogs who need additional rehabilitation, confidence building, training, socialization, or simply more time are given the chance to heal without being rushed.
We celebrate the milestones that may seem small to others:
The first time a frightened dog willingly walks out of their kennel.
The first tail wag.
The first time they accept a gentle touch.
The first successful walk on a leash.
The first time they choose to approach someone instead of hiding.
The moment they finally realize they are safe.
For these dogs, those moments are huge.
For Some Dogs, TRUAA Becomes Home
A few of the dogs who come to us may never find a traditional adoptive home because of medical, behavioral, or special needs.
We lovingly call these dogs our “Lifers.”
For them, TRUAA is not just a rescue.
It is home.
Here, they are safe.
They are loved.
They are given the medical care they need, people they can trust, room to be themselves, and the freedom to simply be dogs again.
We never want a dog’s worth to be determined by how quickly they can be adopted.
Your Donation Gives Them Time
Your support during The Big Give helps provide the everyday care that keeps this mission going—food, shelter, veterinary care, medications, preventative care, rehabilitation, training, enrichment, and safe housing.
But your donation provides something even bigger.
It gives them time.
Time for a scared dog to learn to trust.
Time for an injured dog to heal.
Time for a misunderstood dog to learn.
Time for a long-stay dog to wait for the right family.
Time for a Lifer to always have a safe place to call home.
And time for us to continue saying yes to dogs who have been overlooked by everyone else.
More Than 500 Second Chances—and Counting
Since opening our doors, TRUAA has helped save more than 500 dogs, but there are still so many waiting for someone to believe they are worth saving.
Every dog that comes through our gates has a story.
Some stories are heartbreaking.
Some take a long time to rewrite.
But every dog deserves the opportunity for a different ending.
Safe. Loved. Healed. And given the chance to become who they were always meant to be.
This year, during The Big Give, we are asking our community to stand beside us.
Help us care for the dogs already depending on us.
Help us continue our Paws in Progress program.
Help us provide a home for the dogs who may have nowhere else to go.
And help us get closer to the day when we can once again open a kennel and say yes to another dog desperately needing a second chance.
Be the Reason for a Second Chance
Every gift, no matter the size, helps us continue this lifesaving work.
This year, please be the reason a dog gets a second chance.
Building Second Chances
Our Building Second Chances is about creating safer, more functional spaces for the dogs at TRUAA and improving the way we care for them every day.
Funds raised will help us begin work on our new rescue trailers, refurbish an existing rescue building, and create a covered outdoor kennel area where dogs can get fresh air, relax safely, and wait comfortably for their turn in the play yard.
The outdoor kennels will also help reduce indoor accidents and cleaning time, giving our team more time to focus on training, enrichment, medical care, and one-on-one attention.
These projects are an important part of TRUAA’s future. They will help us create a safer, more comfortable environment for the dogs who depend on us while they heal, grow, and wait for the loving homes they deserve. Every improvement brings us one step closer to giving dogs the second chance they deserve.
