Across SAISD, Early College High School (ECHS) and P-TECH models are breaking down barriers, giving students direct access to industry certifications and fast-tracking college degrees that lead to high-paying careers before they even walk across the high school graduation stage.

Equipping students with hands-on, real-world tools expands their potential and economic mobility exponentially. This year’s Big Give the SAISD Foundation is focused on funding transformative workforce programs that allow SAISD high schoolers to earn industry certifications and associate degrees, enabling them to secure higher-paying jobs in their fields while pursuing higher education or workforce goals. 

The Challenge: 
Student Demand is Soaring

Our students are actively building the future of San Antonio. 80% of workforce participants matriculate directly to college—significantly outpacing the district average. In the Class of 2025, 275 students earned industry credentials while 164 received associate degrees, positioning them for immediate success in higher education and the workforce. With ongoing support in 2026, the number of anticipated college credentials is expected to reach 350.

• Pharmacy Tech: Funding for hands-on learning tools for the mock pharmacy at Edison helped elevate state certification exam pass rates from 55% to 72% in just one year, empowering graduating seniors to enter the healthcare workforce immediately or work in a related field as they pursue their pre-med college degrees. 

• Ag Mechanics & Welding: Funding state-of-the-art machinery and student safety equipment helped expand the program at Burbank, growing enrollment from 182 to 320 students and allowing them to earn while they learn. 

• Teaching & Education (Applied Associates in Teaching): Funding scholarships and the Homegrown Pipeline to empower future educators at Travis Early College High School to step directly into paid instructional assistant roles in SAISD schools while working toward their BA and teacher certification.

• $50: Covers essential safety equipment or hands-on learning materials.
• $25: Funds test prep material and an application fee for industry certification.
