Teens in recovery need a different kind of school

Traditional school environments aren’t designed to support the daily realities of recovering from substance use disorder. Students in recovery often feel isolated, misunderstood, or left behind at the very moment they need stability most.

Families feel this too. Parents worry about whether their child will graduate, whether recovery will last, or where they can find help that understands both education and recovery.

Rise Inspire Academy gives students a place to keep going

Rise Recovery helps teens, young adults, and families overcome the effects of drugs and alcohol and partners with the community in education and prevention. With community support, we can provide our programs and services at no cost to clients and without stipulations on insurance, income, or other criteria.

As part of this work, we operate Rise Inspire Academy, Bexar County’s only recovery high school, where academic growth and recovery support work together so students can continue learning in a safe, structured, recovery-centered environment.

Rise Inspire Academy served 65 students in 2025, seven of whom graduated. Students can also work toward a GED, giving those whose education has been disrupted a recognized credential that can open doors to employment, job training, college, and other opportunities.
