Children with special needs and the families who love them deserve compassion, understanding and support. Children who suffer injury and abuse deserve a calm and nurturing place to heal and hope. Respite Care opens arms wide in love and compassion for the children who need them most.
In 1987, parents of children with special needs came together to address the demands and stress their circumstances placed upon the entire family. From the desire to work outside the home, have time to attend to the needs of other children, spouses, parents and themselves Respite Care of San Antonio was born. The original mission, to enhance the stability and nurturing opportunities of these families, is fulfilled through community based and overnight services, offering short-term relief to parents. In 1997 the mission expanded to provide care for children from throughout Texas who are in protective custody as a result of abuse and neglect.
