Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church

    The Catholic ministry started in Helotes in 1896.  It was a joining of two cultures that settled the area in the 1850's -- settlers from Germany and Mexico.  A few of these people began reaching out to others to build faith and community.  This tradition has continued for over 125 years in the Helotes area.  The parish family of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church has a rich history of living our faith and serving others - and passing this value on to our youth.  Our once small parish was built on a foundation that strongly focused on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.  Even though we have grown from a handful of families to over 4,000 registered families, our core values have not changed over the years.  There is still a strong sense of "do unto others, as you would have them do unto you."  In this ever changing world, our parish family strives to help others for the good of the greater community.  

    Our social outreach programs and parish ministries serve the:  homeless; imprisoned; mentally and physically ill; elderly; teenage mothers; foster youth; hungry; victims of natural disaster; military/veterans; grieving; and others in need.  We have been honored to receive the Faith Based Volunteer of the Year Award from United Way for supporting over 40 local shelters and non-profit agencies in the San Antonio area.  We have also received the State of Texas Governor's Award for social service outreach. 

    To meet the needs of our parish family due to the tremendous growth in our area, we completed construction of our new Family Center building two years ago.  Our family center is providing the needed space for faith formation, community events and our many ministries including those who serve others through our outreach programs.  All proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards our new building.  Please help us continue the legacy of faith and love that others began over 125 years ago by helping pay the loan on our new family center.
