Transformations by New Braunfels Angels: Why We Show Up

The Need

Right now, more than 3,000 children and youth across South Central Texas are navigating the foster care system. The system itself is complicated — but the solution isn't. It's people. Consistent, caring adults who show up again and again.

Without that consistency, the numbers tell a hard story:

  • Half of foster homes close within their first year.
  • 1 in 5 youth in foster care will face homelessness by age 18.
  • Half of youth in care won't graduate high school.
  • 80% of children in foster care experience significant mental health challenges.
  • 60% of youth who age out of care live below the poverty line.

These aren't statistics about children who are somehow different from any other child. They're what happens when kids are asked to survive instability without anyone steady beside them.

The Solution: Relationships That Last

New Braunfels Angels was founded in 2018 on a simple belief: relationships change outcomes. Through two core programs, Love Box®, which wraps foster families in tangible support and connection, and Dare to Dream®, which pairs youth with trained, caring mentors, the organization mobilizes everyday volunteers, mentors, donors, and partners to show up for kids and families who need someone in their corner.

And it's working. Families and youth in these programs are seeing:

  • Higher caregiver stability than the national average
  • Youth and mentors staying connected long after the formal program ends
  • Higher on-time high school graduation rates
  • Greater emotional health, social well-being, and sense of normalcy
  • Stronger long-term economic stability

Behind every one of those numbers is a real relationship, a mentor and mentee whose bond grew into something built on trust and lasting well beyond the program itself. Or the families in the Love Box® program who went from isolated to genuinely known by their community.

Why Your Gift Matters

Every dollar given to New Braunfels Angels goes toward building and sustaining these relationships — training mentors, equipping Love Boxes, supporting caregivers so they don't burn out and homes don't close, and walking alongside youth so they have someone who doesn't give up on them.

This isn't a program that treats foster care as a system to be managed. It's a community that treats every child and family as someone worth showing up for — consistently, intentionally, for the long haul.

The foster care system wasn't built for belonging. We can build it anyway — one relationship, one gift, one person who shows up at a time.
