This year for Big Give, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas (GSSWT) is raising funds to supply Girl Scouts with updated horse tack for our new and improved Horse Program at Camp La Jita! To ensure we are keeping up with safety standards, regular inspections and maintenance are performed on all equipment for the safety of both our horses and our campers. GSSWT prioritizes the safety of our Girl Scouts and it is time to replace our current horse tack to provide our girls and the horses with new gear in preparation for the next camping season.
For over 25 years the Horse Program at Camp La Jita has provided an opportunity for girls to learn how to care for and ride a horse. It not only allows the girls an exciting chance to connect with nature and build new skills in a safe and supportive environment, but it also teaches girls how to be confident in their abilities to take charge and approach new experiences without fear!
Your gifts make a difference in the lives of girls who are learning to be leaders. Our goal is to raise $5,000, which will go a long way to expand the Horse program at Camp La Jita! Join us in supporting hundreds of Girl Scouts in the San Antonio and Southwest Texas area.
Powered by more than 3,000 adult volunteers, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas serves more than 10,000 girls in its 21-county jurisdiction. Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them. Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas serves more than 18,628 girls and is supported by 5,526 trained adult volunteers across a 21-county service area including: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, Maverick, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Wilson, and Zavala.
Girls participate in five flexible Girl Scout pathways so that each girl can design her own unique leadership experience. Through activities in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), financial literacy, the Girl Scout Cookie Program, career readiness, outdoor education, the arts, Take Action service projects and more, girls learn skills in teamwork, goal-setting and leadership to become successful leaders in our community.
