Who We Are

Empower House opened its doors in 1999 as the Martinez Street Women's Center, formed by neighbors who saw that women on San Antonio's East Side were going without basic reproductive health care. We started by closing that gap. Twenty-six years later, the work has grown to meet what our community told us it needed.

Today Empower House delivers community health services, youth development, and advocacy from three locations. Our programming is grounded in restorative justice, developmental relationships, and feminist, womanist, and mujerista practice. We center women and girls of color, and our doors are open to everyone: parents, caregivers, youth, elders, and neighbors of every gender.

In 2025 we served 1,744 people. Behind that number are individuals - women and girls, community members - with a vision for their best future. Over 26 years, they keep showing up, and so do we. 

Programs Your Gift Supports 

Empower Choice Reproductive health education, healthy pregnancy classes, and access to perinatal support including doulas and counseling. We walk alongside birthing people through the transition to parenthood in a county where too many make that transition without a single professional in their corner.

Empower Parents Seminars, discussion groups, and eight-week classes that raise awareness around family violence and give parents concrete skills for building life-giving relationships with their kids. Parents arrive wanting to break a cycle. We give them the tools to do it.

Empower Connects Internet access, devices, and tailored digital skills workshops that close the digital equity gap. A family cannot apply for a job, refill a prescription, or help a child with homework without getting online. We bridge the gap to access and build confidence in tech use. That matters!

Mobility Mentoring Our Community Health Workers work one on one with individuals to navigate education, healthcare, and other needed resources. They help individuals identify what they need, and empower them to set goals toward healthy, whole, flourishing lives.

Empower Youth Afterschool programs, spring break and summer camps, and restorative justice services at partner schools. Open to San Antonio youth ages 11 to 18. Last year 432 young people ages 10 to 19 came through our programs.

The Empower House 101.5 LP-FM Our community-based radio station amplifies local San Antonio voices, carrying women, queer, and BIPOC perspectives across the airwaves and online, 24/7.
