Who We Are

As the only Children's Advocacy Center in Bexar County, our mission is to restore dignity, hope, and trust to children traumatized by abuse and neglect. ChildSafe is Bexar County's most advanced trauma informed care center for child survivors of abuse and neglect and their non-offending family members. We bring together law enforcement, child protection, and medical and mental health experts so that every child who walks through our doors is met with one coordinated, compassionate response, not a fragmented system that asks them to relive their trauma again and again.

The Story Behind the Numbers

This past year, that mission came to life 25,732 times. That is the number of services our team provided to children and caregivers across our community, and behind every one of those services is a person who trusted us with something difficult.

It started with 2,000 forensic interviews, each one conducted by a specially trained professional who gave a child the space to share their story safely, in their own words, only once. For 148 children who had survived exploitation or trafficking, that first conversation opened the door to specialized, long-term care built around what they had endured.

Telling the story is only the beginning. Healing takes time, which is why our clinical team held 7,644 counseling sessions this past year, walking alongside children and families as they processed trauma and rebuilt a sense of safety. And for many of those same families, healing also meant practical support. Our resource room provided essential items to 4,300 clients, small acts of care that remind a family they are not facing this alone.

Because prevention matters as much as intervention, we also trained 5,941 community members on how to recognize and report abuse, equipping parents, teachers, and neighbors to be part of a child's safety net before harm ever occurs.
