Julie and GDTX are Changing Lives Together

Working at Guide Dogs of Texas means I get to see firsthand what goes into making each guide dog partnership possible.

I joined the GDTX team in May of 2025 after three successful contract litters in 2024.  As the Breeding Coordinator, I am able to combine my love for dog breeding into something that makes a difference in our community.  Caring and preparing our breeding dogs to produce the best temperament, intelligence and structure for our puppies is an enormous undertaking.  We do this by evaluating, hip and elbow, eye and cardiac, as well as genetic testing.  This is done before the dogs are even considered for the important task of producing the next generation of Guide Dogs.  In the past few years, these expenses have risen sharply. 

Breeding dogs the proper way is far more expensive than the average person realizes.  The cost of breeding, prenatal care, whelping the litter, neonate care and raising the litter can cost thousands to tens of thousands per litter.  Our dogs are bred for the specific purpose of creating guide dogs and we take pride and care of all puppies born at our facility regardless of their success.      

This Big Give, I’m raising funds to support the dogs, training, care, and people behind every guide dog partnership. Guide Dogs of Texas provides expertly trained guide dogs at no cost to Texans who are blind.
