Give to expand Harold L. George Flight #7 support for ROTC scholarships and JROTC programs!

Each year Flight #7 participates in and supports Daedalian educational programs, including flight and national scholarships. In 2025, we awarded $18,000 independent scholarships, showing a commitment to direct investment and support in the military aviation talent pipeline.

We are planning to expand support for scholarships for ROTC cadets and midshipmen as we look to the year ahead. Additionally, we are exploring opportunities to provide grants to JROTC units at area high schools. As we return to the Big Give this year, our flight is looking for support from 20 donors to enhance our funding so we can expand these programs.

Located in the Los Angeles area, Flight #7 was chartered in September 1956. The flight is composed of Army, Navy, Marine and Air Force active and retired military aviators. It is named for the first Daedalian, Lt. General Harold L.“Hal” George, USAF (Ret)., who retired in California and served as mayor of Beverly Hills following his active-duty career

Our flight meets every other month for a luncheon in our Daedalian Room at the Air Force Space and Missile Center in El Segundo, California. Our meetings include a guest/member speaker addressing our profession as military aviators and their involvement in its advancement. We welcome and invite all of our fellow rated, commissioned aviators to join us at one of our member luncheons. We are eager to share fellowship and the Daedalian legacy with you, and encourage you to join the Order of Daedalians and Flight 7 as a member and join us in advancing our tenets and heritage.

Our namesake, General Hal George served as the chair of the ad hoc committee that conducted initial conversations around organizing the Daedalians as a society of those who first flew their country’s airplanes in time of war. A captain at the time, as the committee chairman, he was responsible for calling the first Daedalian meeting to order on March 26, 1934. General George was also the first to raise his right hand and recite “The Promise of a Daedalian”. He would go on to be a primary architect of Air Transport Command as its first commander and was also a member of AWPD-1. Hal George played a pioneering role in the development of American airpower as an advocate of strategic precision bombing, the development of comprehensive airlift capabilities to provide worldwide transportation services for military cargo and personnel, and an independent Air Force.

We are eager to share his legacy as an aviation pioneer, along with those of the other Daedalian Founders, with the next generation of military aviators as we pass our legacy and love of flight on to them.

Your gift will help us enhance Flight #7’s ability to continue growing our reach with and support for the motivated young Americans on the path to earning their wings!
