Who We Are

With community support, The Children’s Shelter has been successfully serving South Texas children and families affected by abuse and neglect since 1901. Our mission is to restore innocence and strengthen families.

Through a continuum of trauma-informed care, more than 4,500 children and families are served each year through evidence-based prevention and intervention practices designed to significantly impact children, families, and in turn, the community. We accomplish this through our family of services that includes emergency shelter, therapeutic residential treatment, family strengthening services, treatment foster care, and mental health for children and their families. Our model of care is defined by safety, trustworthiness, empowerment, engagement, and choices for those we serve. We are here to protect children and strengthen families in order to eliminate child abuse and neglect.

It shouldn’t hurt to be a child. Together with the community, we are restoring innocence and strengthening families in South Texas.
