Clarity Child Guidance Center

A nonprofit organization

Clarity Child Guidance Center is the only nonprofit mental health treatment center for kids ages 3 to 17 in South Texas. Our staff of children’s mental health professionals is the largest in the region thanks to an affiliation with the University of Texas Health Science Center. We provide a full continuity of care on our 8-acre campus in the South Texas Medical Center. When a child is in crisis, we work with families to get much needed treatment regardless of their ability to pay.

mission

Our mission is to support children and families in their pursuit of mental wellness.

vision

Our vision is to ensure that every child and family that needs our services receives our services.

our programs

Children want to overcome their problems, but many don’t know how. Clarity’s goal is to work with kids and families to discover obstacles and remove roadblocks. Our numerous programs equip children with the tools they need to become healthy, happy, and successful in life!

  • Crisis Services is our mental health emergency room. It is open around the clock and provides immediate access to a safe, supportive environment where a licensed behavioral health professional conducts an assessment.

  • Inpatient treatment stabilizes children who need immediate care and require continuous supervision during their mental health crisis. Clarity’s 8-acre campus has 5 units with 74 beds. Patients receive an evaluation, 24-hour nursing and physician attention, medication (if needed), and a treatment plan.

  • Partial hospitalization provides children with intensive mental health care during the day and then collaborates with the family to practice skills in the evening. Care is provided by psychiatrists, nurses, clinicians, and therapeutic recreation staff.

  • Outpatient services offers diverse treatment interventions, such as individual, family, and group therapy.

  • First Step is a one-time consultation that gives a professional recommendation about service(s) a child or family may need. A psychological testing technician performs an assessment, a psychologist conducts an interview and reviews the results with the family, and then a care coordinator works with families to support access to care.

  • The Next Step Center assess the resources that families need to support their child’s continued path to mental wellness. Bridge appointments, school referrals and clearance, and care coordination services are available.

  • Multisystemic therapy (MST) is a community-based program, focused on empowering caregivers by providing skills to keep kids in the community and their homes.

  • Clarity Southside offers partial hospitalization and outpatient services to all students enrolled in a Southside ISD school.

  • Claritycon is an annual educational conference that explores the internal and external factors that impact the emotional, psychological and social well-being of young people. Since its creation in 2013, the conference has grown to reach over 600 attendees annually ranging from educators, therapists, nurses, social workers, and mental health professionals.
